Our culture’s obsession with celebrity and wealth can create an environment where children are choosing their heroes or role models based on status or power. One day, I was talking with my 7 year old niece and she mentioned a well-known teen-celebrity with an awe that troubled me. My response was to ask her what, exactly, she admired about this person. It led us into a wonderful conversation about the qualities and characteristics that we admire.
