THE SKOLL WORLD FORUM ON SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP 2009 took place in March (25th to 27th; www.skollworldforum.com) and brought 780 high profile delegates from more than 60 countries.
Prominent figures from the social, academic, finance, corporate and policy sectors engaged for three days and nights in a series of debates, discussions and work sessions focused on accelerating, innovating and scaling solutions to some of the world’s most pressing social issues!
This years theme was "Social Entrepreneurship: Shifting Power Dynamics -- how social entrepreneurs access, navigate and reform power in their approach to systemic change".
The Opening Plenary Session was extremely engaging: Jeff Skoll, Founder of the Skoll Foundation (and former Founder of eBay, and Participant, among others) and Stephan Chambers, Chairman of the Skoll Center for Social Entrepreneurship in Oxford. It was followed by an amazing panel discussion on "Power to the People: Citizen Engagement and Social Transformation" moderated by Ray Suarez from The NewsHour, PBS. The Honorable Mary Robinson, President, Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative provided great insight into these theme, and was joined by Kailash Satyarthi, President, Global Campaign for Education, Chairman, Global March Against Child Labour and Daniel Lubetzky, Founder and President, PeaceWorks Group. This Session set the stage for two amazing days of discussion among leaders of public and private sector, social entrepreneurs, academics.
Several sessions followed, that varied from: Investing for Impact, to Healthcare, Education, Innovation to Power, Pathways to Scale, to Creating a Sustainable Future!
