Job Summary: The Communications Officer is responsible for working with Grameen Foundation’s Social Performance Management Center (SPMC) to support the continual development and enhancement of the Progressoutofpoverty.org website, as well as SPMC’s online presence and other communications outreach initiatives, including the Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI).
Reporting and relationships: Reports to the Director of the Social Performance Management Center.
Availability: The employee will be expected to work a typical work week of 40 hours plus additional hours as necessary to complete projects. S/he will also be required to travel if necessary.
Essential Job Functions:
Customer Success (60%):
Maintaining the Progressoutofpoverty.org website and social media channels (50%):
Assist in development and implementation of SPMC communications initiatives and website:
• Coordinate with the Director of the Social Performance Management Center and Grameen Foundation’s Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement strategy for all phases of the website, managing external vendor(s) as necessary for website development.
• Perform day-to-day administration of the website using a Drupal content management system (CMS). Use google analytics tool to gather and analyze usage statistics of SPMC website.
• Work with intern(s) to assure branding and posting of finalized PPI-related documents on the website.
• Provide targeted mass updates to all SPMC followers, and to PPI website users, informing registered website users of PPI updates, new case studies, etc.
• Work closely with MarComm team to generate a monthly internal and external e-newsletter (using Convio as a formatting and distribution tool), as well as targeted communications around individual website use; track newsletter statistics to identify trends in site usage and visitor statistics.
• Coordinate with SPMC staff and external SPM/PPI stakeholders to engage in blogger outreach, create, and disseminate content for the PPI blog, Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Capacity Building (20%):
• Work with the SPMC Training and Education Manager to coordinate the creation and distribution of educational materials, meeting agendas, presentation materials, and materials to support marketing following each peer learning event.
Product Development (10%):
• Work with the SPMC Product Development Manager to coordinate the online marketing of new PPIs, certifications, data analysis toolkits and the new PPI management application.
• Work with SPMC Training and Education Manager, as well as regional staff, to gather feedback from training and peer learning events, refine documents based on feedback, and integrate
General (10%):
• Work with writing consultants and MarComm team to edit, oversee layout and distribute publications relating to social performance and the PPI. Work with internal stakeholders on creating case studies and news releases where appropriate.
• Draft reports about SPMC activities to internal and external stakeholders, with input from SPMC Director and liaison from Grameen Foundation’s Development team. Contribute to design and development of reports presented to senior management and donors, in consultation with Director.
• Work with MarComm staff to develop and execute a targeted media outreach strategy, with input from SPMC team members.
• Help SPMC Director manage the budget and contracts, including but are not limited to tracking contracts, financial performance of the contracts, payment requests and reporting.
• Coordinate contracts for external translation consultants and volunteers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Fluency in social media platforms, management and monitoring.
• Experience managing vendors for website and publications.
• Outstanding writing, communication, copy editing and interpersonal skills and strong work experience, along with a working knowledge of communications/public relations.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively about supporting SPMC growth through traditional and online communications.
• Ability as a self-starter, but also very adept at working with others.
• Solid understanding of HTML/CSS techniques.
• Experience working with designers and Adobe Creative Suite.
• A proven team player.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple demands in deadline-driven work environment.
• Commitment to advancing Grameen Foundation’s mission.
• Experience with Drupal CMS and Salesforce CRM preferred.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of five years of relevant on-the-job experience; advanced degree may be substituted for work experience.
• Familiarity with microfinance/international development is a plus.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
